Academy Award® Winner for Best Documentary of 2009, The Cove follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and free-divers as they embark on a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, shining a light on a dark and deadly secret. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery, adding up to an unforgettable story that has inspired audiences worldwide to action.

Since 2004, the Origami Whales Project (OWP) has worked to raise awareness concerning threats to cetaceans (dolphins and whales) through its stunning and memorable "Curtain of 34,000 Origami Whales." Created by thousands of concerned citizens across the globe and exhibited throughout the world, this large-scale public art project serves as a powerful visual statement and memorial for the thousands of individual whales killed since the 1986 ban on commercial whaling. As urgent need for cetacean rights activities arise, the Origami Whales Project has expanded with additional outreach and education programs, creating "Curtains" of origami dolphins and whales in United States, Dominica, and New Zealand.
The Origami Whales Project receives tax-deductible donations through fiscal sponsorship by Cetacean Society International.
Peggy Oki is a local artist and environmental activist who is well-known as the only female member of the Zephyr Skateboard Team featured in the film "Dogtown and Z-Boys".

"HOW ART CAN GET BEHIND A SOCIAL CAUSE"
I will be doing a live radio interview with Julia Parker on Friday, March 27 from 10 to 11in the morning on KZSB, 1290 AM on your dial. Elizabeth Stewart's diverse and always fascinating program, Arts and Antiques Radio Show, will focus on "How Art Can Get Behind a Social Cause" as the topic.
Julia Parker is the Director Of Animal Affairs with the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network, an organization I recently joined after seeing News-Press coverage about the rescue and rehabilitation efforts for pelicans.
This show will feature Julia's comments about what the Wildlife Care Network does here in Santa Barbara for every imaginable wild animal, their challenges and success stories.
Learn what to do or who to call if you see a wounded seabird or animal.
Discover the unique ways our local art community supports wildlife and conservation efforts, what kinds of events are out there for artists and audience to increase awareness and to sustain and support our habitats, open spaces and wildlife in crisis..
The program will also highlight the music of Molly Zenobia!
Listeners can call 805 -564-1290 in with questions about art, and appraisals of antiques.
Re-aired Friday at 8 and Sunday at 11.
